3 Budget-Friendly Electric SUVs Set to Hit the Roads in the Next 12 Months

The compact electric SUV segment is set to witness strong momentum over the next year or two. Automakers like Hyundai, Tata Motors and Kia are preparing to introduce new models that could make electric mobility more accessible than ever.

With growing demand for city-friendly SUVs and improved EV technology, these upcoming launches are expected to offer better range, modern features and competitive pricing. The small electric SUV space is clearly gearing up for an exciting phase.

1. Tata Punch EV Facelift:

Set to be formally unveiled on February 20, 2026, the refreshed Punch EV has already been previewed by Tata Motors through official images. The updated micro electric SUV gains a more vertical front fascia featuring a sealed grille layout inspired by the Harrier EV along with a reshaped bumper that now incorporates a revised skid-style insert.

Visual tweaks also include aerodynamic alloy wheels similar to those seen on the Nexon EV and a new yellow body finish contrasted by a black roof. The cabin will receive a noticeable upgrade in terms of technology, materials and features while the driving range could also improve significantly.

2. Hyundai Compact Electric SUV:

Planned for a 2027 market debut, the Hyundai compact EV is part of the brand’s strategy to consolidate its locally built electric vehicle lineup. It is being developed specifically for India with a key focus on localisation to control costs, improve serviceability and better align with regional driving needs while maintaining latest design language.

A pair of battery configurations is expected to be offered in the upcoming HE1i electric SUV with the entry-level version projected to return about 300 km to 350 km in real-world driving conditions per charge. To be slotted in the sub-four-metre segment, it will likely take inspiration and dimensional cues from the global Inster concept.

3. Kia Syros EV:

An affordable electric SUV positioned at the entry point of the segment is reportedly in the pipeline from Kia with indications suggesting it may be derived from the Syros platform. The forthcoming model will likely borrow styling and technology cues from concept studies such as the EV2 and it is expected to be offered with a choice of two battery options while featuring a cabin packed with latest equipment.
